A. General Information
⦁ Duties at the DMC Harper University hospital’s clinical experience department had been given to the student. Because of this, students will have direct contact with patients at different points during the course of the day. In order to prepare for the coming days, when they will be in direct contact with patients and customers, the experience will be beneficial for the student.
⦁ As stated in the hospital’s mission statement, the major goal is to ensure that all patients get the best possible treatment while also benefitting from the most up-to-date technological advancements. The majority of the organization’s concerns are with facilities and technology. They are always striving to include cutting-edge technology and enhance their instruments in order to ensure that patients get the best possible treatment and accommodations.
⦁ The values of honesty and integrity are two of the most fundamental aspects of this hospital’s code of ethics, and they are intertwined. They always prioritize the requirements of the patient above all other considerations. They are always looking for methods to enhance the overall quality of their services. It is important to the hospital that its employees do their duties well, and it seeks to recruit only the most qualified and experienced physicians and practitioners to serve on the hospital’s medical staff (Arajo et al., 2018). This guarantees that the hospital’s ethical standards are maintained at a high level and that those patients get specialized treatment as and when it is required.
⦁ Team nursing is a concept that aids in the identification, organization, administration, and evaluation of complete client-centered care services. Team nursing is a concept that emphasizes collaboration between professionals and non-professionals in the delivery of healthcare services. One of the fundamental concepts is that everyone should collaborate in order to achieve the shared objective of delivering high-quality, comprehensive nursing care to the community at large. At this particular hospital, there is also a team nursing system in place, in which collaboration between professionals and non-professionals is encouraged in order to ensure that people get the best possible care. In addition, the method is carried out in such a way that the hospital authority is able to provide the best possible services to the public in a collaborative environment. Currently, the team nursing method is proving to be useful to the hospital’s present expansion and operational performance.
B. Assessment
⦁ There is an indication that the administration is supporting the mission. The mission statement undoubtedly requires the administration’s cooperation, as seen by the hospital’s website. First, each Care Unit has its department, which is aggregated. On the other side, the administration genuinely alerts the lack of Technology and Services, which may impede the advancement of the patient’s services (Detroit Medical Center, 2022). Repairs and the need for new gadget technology, on the other hand, are all part of the administrative activities of the administration and management executives. As a result, it can be inferred that the mission statement will undoubtedly require the administration’s backing.
⦁ The manager employs a powerful leadership style known as transformational leadership. Transformational leadership is critical because the team nursing model has always demanded an open environment and creativity. It is always crucial to ensure that great transformational leadership is taken into account because it works in partnership. The manager’s problem-solving style and temperament are distinct since he initiates analytical thinking to solve a problem. Every member of the hospital is included in such analytical thinking. Everyone is asked to engage in a problem-solving mindset, resulting in no authoritative or dictatorial aspect in the hospital. As a result, the working environment at the Centre is highly pleasant. The workers and other employees are likewise quite pleased and satisfied with this working environment.
⦁ The preceptor’s communication style with staff and other disciples was mostly open-ended and conversational. A very friendly communication system was implemented to ensure that everyone was at ease. The way everyone talked with one another was the nicest element of the entire hospital.
⦁ The preceptor served mostly as a situational leader. The solution was primarily dependent on the situation. The preceptor was always concerned with the outcome of the choice. (Lv et al., 2019) For example, if a new technology was installed and everyone could not use it, the receptor was used to train everyone individually. In that circumstance, training was provided based on the situation and the department’s needs.
⦁ The preceptor’s time management and organization skills were excellent. The squad was performing admirably under the supervision of the preceptor.
⦁ The preceptor is also involved in the quality assurance process. He performed a quality check after the entire team’s work to ensure that the quality was satisfactory. The preceptor’s function was not just that of a leader but also that of an experienced guide.
⦁ As previously stated, the preceptor was very nice, and most contact was done verbally. However, he also envisions a completely informal style of talk to ensure that everyone feels at ease in that type of circumstance.
⦁ The preceptor worked in the hospital industry as well, and he was involved in training and related administrative duties at a specific hospital.
⦁ It had a significant-good impact on the preceptor’s workplace. The preceptor was undoubtedly linked with a good organization, and everyone under the preceptor or who had ever talked with the preceptor had a favorable opinion of the preceptor. He was a terrific person and a fantastic leader.
C. Plan
Intensive care is the practice of keeping a tight watch on one’s vital indicators Patients’ and their families’ education on patient safety, computer literacy, and other topics of communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking are all important skills. All of the fundamental traits of nursing, such as stamina and time management, proved to be quite beneficial to me in my new position. During this period, I have also learned about medication regulations and procedures and the physiological components of nursing care. The kind of treatment that a Cholera patient should take and the fact that a patient suffering from diarrhea should adhere to a strict diet are all significant aspects that I have learned about in this course. At the same time, the rules and processes for signing the bond and the types of documents that a patient and their family members should sign are vital, and I have learned everything throughout this period. I feel that this field trip was beneficial because it allowed me to understand more about pathophysiology. Nursing must be able to deal with patients in the most inventive way possible, which is crucial, and medicine is just as important, all in all. I have learned all there is to know about it during this period. My time management skills were inadequate before my duty and role assignment; other than that, I have managed to develop into a strong and obedient follower of time under the instruction of the preceptor and by the leadership style of the preceptor. My time management and decision-making abilities have improved as a result of this experience.
D. Implementation
⦁ According to the ANA ethics and code of delegation, which contains a decision tree for delegation, a specific nurse shall not be assigned to any work other than the specialization obtained over the academic year (Chattopadhyay et al., 2020). One of the most significant aspects of assigning one duty to another is specialization. Delegation is vital in all areas of nursing, and the ANA decision tree for delegation is given a prominent position at this hospital. I was assigned to work under the preceptor’s supervision in the department where I completed my specialization. The delegation was a pretty straightforward procedure. The facilities manager strictly adhered to the delegation criteria. The procedure was quite straightforward. Everyone was separated according to their specialization, and they were assigned to a certain department based on their viewpoint. This simplified and facilitated the whole delegating process. Everyone was also questioned about their consent and departmental evaluations. It was intriguing all around and followed all of the rules.
E. Evaluation
⦁ The facility’s delivery strategy is acceptable since most customers and employees are extremely pleased and satisfied with the quality and service. The working environment and the personnel, in particular, are always supportive and in favor of the facility Manager, demonstrating that the delivery model is entirely warranted at the provided hospital. It meets the demands of the hospital and its employees.
⦁ The coordination of care, as well as my involvement in coordinating activities, should have been improved. Most of the coordination was done informally, using verbal coordination and communication. People often forget what they are taught, and management frequently ignores informal communication. As a result, I think that coordination and coordination functions, and communication may be improved. This will not only eliminate any chances of misinterpretation but will also improve synchronization. For example, in one of the situations, I was requested to record the specifics of a patient’s input. After the specifics were recorded and orally said that I had completed the task, after an hour, another individual approached me and asked me the same thing, which kept happening. Thus, there should be a structured means of communication at any hospital.
⦁ I provided care following the standards of practice and the code of ethics for nurses. For example, I have been given mental counseling to boost my confidence. On the other side, I have done justice by giving extensive information regarding the patient’s medicine to the families. In this manner, I have given the patient the best treatment possible.
⦁ Initially, I used a transformational leadership style and thought that innovation, openness, and a high degree of communication might help a hospital improve. Finally, transformational leadership was more significant in the clinical rotation’s completion. My team colleagues like how I interact with them; therefore, the style was acceptable. The circumstances also aided it. I do not feel that another approach would have been preferable in this specific scenario. For example, my openness and strong communication skills allowed numerous younger members to contact me for assistance. On the other side, the leaders and management were drawn to my leadership style.
⦁ My problem-solving and decision-making approach was logical analysis. I always believe in approaching situations logically. Therefore, the approach was all about thinking about the issue, its consequence, and the core of the problem in a logical structure. I can never think of anything else in any scenario other than logical thinking since I have always achieved success in this manner.
⦁ The student’s communication style with the preceptor and other team members was professional and casual.
⦁ As previously stated, my punctuality and time management skills were lacking. However, with the help of the preceptor and other team members, I grew more organized in terms of time management over time.
